Hands That Fly is a project that will provide mental health consumers the opportunity to create art works in a professional and supportive environment. With the support of Emory & Henry College, participating artists will occasionally travel to E&H's art studios to create paintings and ceramics.

This project has three goals. The first is to assist consumers with the development and enhancement of their creative abilities through art. The second is to raise public awareness of the creative talents and contributions of people living with a mental illness and to raise awareness about the illnesses themselves. The final goal is to have a good time making art.

Studio sessions will be directed by Barry Jones, Assistant Professor of Art at Emory & Henry College, as well as by student and staff volunteers. Many of the studio sessions will take place in the art studios at E&H, but sessions can also take place at other sites.

Barry's personal art work stems from his relationship with his younger brother, Brian, who has suffered from schizophrenia.
