Requim for a Hardware Store 2003 dimensions variable This exhibit is a site sensitive installation inspired by the AVA gallery space in Chattanooga, TN. It consists of eleven rows of handmade paper carnations secured to the gallery floor. Each row corresponds to the discolorations on the gallery floor left by hardware shelves. Crosses made from copper pipe stand between the rows, each hung with a pair of white chiffon overalls. The fabric hangs loosely from the pipe forms and moves with the breeze created by the gallery ceiling fans. Requiem for a Hardware Store is a visual memorial created to recognize the former life of the AVA gallery and to mourn the slow extinction of locally owned businesses. |
