Artist's Statement

My identity as an artist comes from the tendency to associate ideas and emotions with visual imagery. Stemming from personal and sociological conflicts, the content of my work over the past five years is connected by themes dealing with sexuality, gender, femininity, history, tradition, and desire.

Throughout my development as an artist, the media and methods with which I work often change. Clay, wood, paper, fabric, sound, light, text, and found are materials I have used in the past, each chosen for its potential connection to the content I am exploring.

I use installation as the organizing principle for the majority of my work. This is also a method of focusing on the relationship of objects to their environment. By suggesting a distinct environment, the artist provides a context for the viewer-- a clue to the life of the object within the artist’s mind. Installation allows a reality that functions as a metaphor, which, for me, illustrates the relationship between life and the imagination.
